How to Show Geotagging Thumb Results in ArcMap

Now, I try to make special tips on how to view picture thumb ArcMap from the geotagged photo using the free geotagging software GPicSync.

Every time GPicSync process for geotagging photos always generate KML files that can be opened in Google Earth or ArcGIS Explorer Desktop. In addition, also automatically generate a folder with a name that includes photos Thumbs is but a small dimension (the resizing) that is 160x120 pixels. By utilizing a KML file (usually has a name doc.kml) and Thumbs folder that you can make picture thumb in ArcMap using the Add-in Toolbox Convert GPSFile to SHP via the sub-tool KML to SHP.

The following stages is to display picture thumb of photo geotagging
in the ArcMap using GPicSync results:

1. Convert KML to SHP using the Add-in Convert GPSFile to SHP.

 2. Make sure the selected Feature Type is POINT.

3. Show shapefile as a layer in the TOC, and open its attribute. Column Name is the name of the file photo, while columns descr is the html script to display the photo. We do not need content from the descr column, we'll change the photo file name contained in the folder Thumbs GPicSync outcome of the process. The trick descr column right click, select Field Calculator. Fill the form with: "thumb_" & [NAME] and then click OK.

4.  The results of the above processes as shown in the figure below.

5. To make picture thumb in ArcMap, we will take advantage of HTML features Popup. Previously you had to do the settings of the Layer Properties. The trick, right-click the layer (converted from kml shp), select Properties. Move to the HTML Popup tab, then select As a URL prefix * with replacing his suit with the Thumbs folder location, and determine its field with descr accordance with column names that have been done in the previous three stages.

6.  At this stage has been completed, click the Point to display it using HTML Popup icon located on the Tools toolbar to generate the display as shown in the picture at the top.

Then, how to display the original photo (not the result of resizing)? It's easy, you can use the Hyperlink feature (the icon with the lightning symbol above the HTML Popup icon) to make arrangements in advance of the Layer Properties. The trick, right-click the layer (converted from kml shp), select Properties. Move to the Display tab, then select the Support Hyperlinks using field. Select the Document Name field (see picture below), and then click OK.

By using the Hyperlink icon click on the Point, then the photo will appear using the default application to open the image file on your computer. Suggested default application you use Picasa (free) from Google.
