GIS Job: GIS Technician is Required by Boulder County Transportation

Boulder County Transportation is seeking a term limited GIS Technician for a term of 12 months at 75% time. The GIS Technician is a specialized technical classification. The GIS Technician uses the Geographic Information System (GIS) in assisting staff in the preparation and the production of automated maps. 

Examples of Duties: Assisting with day-to-day mapping needs including map preparation; editing, data entry, plotting and GPS field work; preparation of reports, memorandums and presentations as requested; assistance to non-technical staff with questions on using ArcGIS; performing general clerical duties including filing; and other duties as assigned. 

Required Qualifications: Education: High school graduation or equivalent and two years of college courses in earth science, with emphasis on surveying, geography or mathematics. 

Experience: Two years of experience in cartography, including work in surveying, geography and mathematics, with emphasis on geographic information systems. Experience using ArcGIS ESRI and other ESRI products is preferred. 

Supplemental Information: Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Ability: Demonstrated cartographic ability along with knowledge of mapping principles including spatial orientation procedures to resolve mapping and/or graphical-communication conflicts; ability to process and integrate GPS collected data into a GIS database; demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple work tasks, and deliver work items on a timely basis; effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills; experience within the Transportation or Public Works sector. Experience with conversion of Computer Aided Design (CAD) into the GIS platform a plus.
