Measuring Distances in Google Maps


Distance Measure Tool has been added on Google Maps as a tool to measure the distance between two points specified by the user. To use it, you must first activate this tool from the menu Labs Google Maps.


Click on the icon of green glass in the top right corner. From the appears pop up window, click Enable on the Measure Distance feature Tool, then click Save Changes. Notice in the lower left side of the map view on the line scale, there is a new icon is an image ruler blue. Click on the icon, then to the left of the map view will change to Measure Distance Tool mode.

Now you can measure the distance between two points by clicking on the map. You can measure the distance in a straight line between two points, then see the results on the left in the Measure Distance Tool mode.


If you want to measure the distance between two points based on distance way to go from the starting point to the destination point, then do click like you're doing digitization follow that path. The measurement results can be viewed on the left in the Measure Distance Tool mode.


Users can change the default distance unit is Metric. For example, you want to measure the distance between two points in units Mile, click on I'm feeling geekly, then select the distance unit you want to choose.
